Dr. Anja Whittington is a Professor of Recreation, Parks and Tourism at Radford University. She teaches a variety of courses in recreation and outdoor living skills. Her research focuses on girls’ experiences in the outdoors, the impact of program participation on girls’ lives and program development and evaluation. She was inspired to create this scale after conducting several studies which qualitatively (through interviews and open-ended writing) showed evidence that girls were developing resilience through their participation.

Dr. Jeff Aspelmeier is a Professor and the Department Chair of Psychology at Radford University. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in social psychology, research methods, psychometrics, and statistics. Jeff’s research focuses on interpersonal relationships and adjustment and he has published textbooks on statistics and data analysis. He spends his spare time skiing with his wife, paddling with his dog, back packing with his friends, and playing banjo with anyone brave enough to listen.

Nadine W. Budbill has close to two decades of experience in the fields of nonprofit management, fundraising, evaluation, and positive youth development youth programs, particularly for adolescent girls. Currently on the development team at Vermont Works for Women, she is the co-founder of Dirt Divas, a mountain bike and empowerment program for middle school girls. Nadine has a B.A. in Race and Gender Studies from Hampshire College, a M.A. in Education from Prescott College, and a graduate certificate in Nonprofit Management from Woodbury College. With long-time collaborator Anja Whittington, Nadine has published several articles on outdoor adventure programs for girls.
